Has anyone told Craig that Surface tablets now run Windows 11 and let you open more than 4 windows at once? https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/112616406179385159

@viticci I don't think anyone at Apple is allowed to see the outside world.
@viticci they can even format flash drives! crazy!

@viticci I think Craig’s point is that today’s Surfaces are *just* Windows 11 PCs. They don’t really have a “tablet UI” anymore, like Microsoft tried with Windows 8. Sure there are small touch optimizations & accommodations when you rip off the keyboard, but it’s still very clearly the Windows 11 UI.

A dual-boot MacOS / iPadOS iPad *would* look a lot more like Windows 8, which *did* flip between two very different UIs depending on whether it was in tablet or PC mode. (1/2)

Note: I’m not saying that such a device is bad. I’m just saying that I see Craig’s point wrt dual UIs/experiences on a single device, from the perspective of the Surface lineup.

I own (and have owned) many Surfaces over the years. Aside from their form factor, I don’t consider them to be “tablets” in the same way that an iPad or Galaxy Tab is. They are just 2-in-1 PCs, most with mediocre battery life (2/2)

@viticci Surface tablets are a commercial and popular failure, no apps, no accessories, no profit for Microsoft, either. Maybe the iPad just isn't for you, nothing wrong with that, but around 400 million are pretty satisfied with the iPad.
@viticci No, he’ll probably learn that in a few months
@viticci @9to5Mac hahhahaha good one. Craig don’t be like Balmer.
@viticci
I recall you said they weren’t very good. Are you changing your mind?
@viticci but can they run iPadOS?
@viticci Because they’re PCs. Windows tablets have always been PCs, they work like any other Windows PC, and they’re as popular now as they ever were.
@viticci 5 windows is a niche feature no one but a few grumpy nerds with blogs actually wants, of course 😉

@matt @viticci Surely you mean it’s a “Pro” feature no one but a few grumpy nerds with blogs actually want 😆.

Like more than 8GB of RAM/HDR/120 FPS/more than 2 displays…

@viticci Let them have their fun, they are just making harmless little jokes, no need to be so serious all the time. Life is supposed to be fun. Be happy 😊
@viticci @9to5Mac I hope this is one of those instances where they mock something only to turn around a year or two later and do what they’d mocked. This year’s iPadOS situation is disheartening.
