If it’s part of the video now, doesn’t that mean we can just fast forward through it?
Because if it’s something explicit in the stream, then ad blockers will just look for that and we’re back to where we are currently.
I guess they could prevent you from doing that by:
- Creating a timestamp
- Sending you the ad
- Refuse to send you the rest of the stream until “Now - Timestamp >= Ad’s runtime”
Have some browser extension play the video in the background with ads and notify me once it’s done. In the meantime show some message like “bringing out the trash”. Can do better things with my time than watching ads
