One of the banes of my existence as the home scheduler is making this happen. It takes a couple minutes to get the directions just so, and #chatgpt (3.5)
was unable to work it out, but #copilot seems to get it. so….
AI is not bad and that is not a reasonable position to take.
@jneno From a creative person's point of view, AI is at best intellectual property thievery -- at the moment -- and at worst, death.
So, it's pretty f'in bad
The IT job I left almost 2 years ago must be completely different now in light of AI can and does do. I was in the business of doing a complicated version of what I just asked ChatGPT to do. It took hours and hours and often weeks to get the scheduling just so.
I suppose I could do it all in an hour's time now. I got out... just in time?
@Mountaineerdave
I think we have very different ideas on property rights.
Our economic system will not survive AI and that is a very good thing. Bring it on.
No. Don't have time for that but I don't think someone should have to draw pictures or slave for a corporation in order to eat or afford health care while most of the world's wealth is concentrated in a tiny fraction of the population. It's immoral and it needs to end. AI will force the issue as it replaces nearly all human labor.
Agree on crypto. That and NFTs are nonsense and I generally block anyone that has anything positive to say about either.
Looking at the big picture, competitive markets optimize for extracting resources from the planet.
Technology has been exponentially accelerating our ability to do this and we are destroying the planet in the process.
AI will put this into overdrive, and we will destroy ourselves if AI drives a system that optimizes for consumption.
Will we make it? I don't know.
Change is terrifying, but I contend AI isn't the problem, it is shining a light on the problem.
@jneno Which is not to say that AI in its current ownership model doesn’t have its uses. It certainly does. Your blog highlights a couple. But, till Terry, Dick, and Jane can login tomorrow and have their own LLMs and their own AIs to do their own things, that ownership model isn't helping them. And sure as shit won't help the planet.
Maybe I'm missing something. I'm for sure slow to the AI thing, of the belief till GPT4 that it was 90% (or more) hype.
