Ooh, an emulation of one of my favourite synths by one of my favourite software instrument maker wizards, @fullbucket 😍
He says in the manual he modelled it from the firmware/schematics, doesn't even have an actual unit 🤯 "And of course it does not sound like the original Six-Trak".
As I happen to have one I thought I'd do a quick unscientific comparison of a few random patches I transferred from my synth to the VSTi via SysEx.
First, here's the original: 1/3
And here's the same patches in the simulated VSTi version by @fullbucket:
NB: I recorded the notes in the above video as MIDI as well as audio. On this video I have overdubbed the audio with the output from the SixTraq VSTi.
I tried to roughly match the volume, but intentionally didn't alter it throughout the whole video.
Considering my unit isn't in the greatest shape (and has several quirks) I was super surprised how close the patches sound without ANY tweaking!
I'm super impressed! 😍 2/3
I should really add that the software instrument has a whole bunch of advantages over the original:
"Full polyphony in Multi mode, MIDI
import and Sync-to-Host for the sequencer, program browser and much more."
Plus a REALLY cool sound editor with knobs and the best is SysEx im- and export, allowing me to get the best of both worlds between hard and software!
And the most amazing thing is the synth is absolutely FREE - although Björn does accept donations on his website. 🤩
