I can’t bear how much the youngs think this is all normal & we’ll all be fine.

They’ve said what they mean to do to us. The 80th anniversary of D-Day was yesterday.

It’s death. Death & horror & pain & it does not stop anywhere. Certainly not at sexually liberated women.

Christ it’s our lives and the lives of the world. Please vote for Biden. They’ll take it all away, everything we fought for, & it’ll be two generations before you get a chance to not vote to get it back.

@Catvalente
Biden could seek out real systemic reforms that could provide uplift to typical Americans even at the detriment of the wealthy & well-connected or...

Just chase after voters who are determined to be against those reforms

@Sean @Catvalente Well, yes, he wants to win an election, and a lot of the potential voters who are in favor of the reforms you mention are already saying loudly and repeatedly that they won’t vote for him.

Why are people surprised when a candidate reacts to the incentives of their electoral system and the behavior of blocs of potential voters?

@Sean @Catvalente To be clear this isn’t a good thing, I think. If Biden wins by courting those more conservative voters because younger and leftier people sit out the election, then he and the Democratic Party will be incentivized to triangulate again. It may also be the case that nobody sees younger voters as worth courting again for a while.

@MisuseCase @Catvalente
So saying that "I'm a registered Democratic voter and I want my government to do x, y, and z" will disincentivize Biden to get my vote to chase after voters who have held their nose and voted for Trump to hold their nose to vote for Biden instead? Make that make sense!?

The popular will of the electorate will be ignored until the popular will changes to the policies that Biden is willing to at very least pay lip service to?

GTFOH!
#VBNMW is a horshoe position of #MAGA.

@Sean @Catvalente Way to misread (probably on purpose) what I said.

@MisuseCase @Catvalente
"If Biden wins by courting those more conservative voters because younger and leftier people sit out the election, then he and the Democratic Party will be incentivized to triangulate again."

There's also incentives to deliver for those "leftier" voters (and a winning strategy), but it's a deliberate choice to not do so and keep going to the right. I didn't misread anything, just pointing out that intent to abandon the "leftier" voters is present.

@Sean @Catvalente There’s lots of incentives to deliver for people who almost always vote and can be persuaded to vote for you.

Not a lot of incentive to deliver for people who both have a spotty record of voting in the first place and are shouting at you that they won’t vote for anybody in this election.

To the extent that our system is responsive to the public, it’s responsive to people who will always show up to vote, not to self-declared vote abstainers.

@MisuseCase @Catvalente

FDR delivered for those spotty voters and he had to be taken out of the White House in a coffin because those spotty voters would re-elect forever otherwise. Biden delivered for those who got college debt forgiven and I doubt anyone who got that will be sitting home on election day. Imagine if Biden twisted arms to let Sanders amendment into the Covid Recovery Act to increase minimum wage how many more voters would have felt that Biden delivered for them.
