Hello, dear newly disgruntled Adobe Illustrator / PhotoShop / InDesign users!

You may like to know that the Affinity Suite is currently on sale for 50% off. No subscription. Perhaps there'll be one in the future for fancy Canva-integrated collaboration, but the base products will always be free. I'm an optimistic soul, so I believe them.

Yes Affinity apps can open native Adobe files. I've been a satisfied customer for many years, happy to endorse them.

@ellane So tempted for my Mac. I have it for Windows.

Sadly already spent enough this month and I don’t **really** need it.

@dcbuchan I thought the one time bulk price was multi platform?

@ellane At the time I wasn’t sure if I wanted it on both platforms so I bought Windows only. Today I could buy Mac only.

Yes the bundle is Mac, windows and iPad.

@ellane Bought it! Had to at that price 🤣

@dcbuchan @ellane Me too!

Great timing. I just bought Lucy a cheapo graphics tablet. Also on sale: $35! I mean seriously.

And I’d just said to her, you’re gonna need some software, and then this comes along. Perfect.

Server Busy

@johnnydecimal Nice to have the universe on our side for once.
@ellane It’s what I use and I’m quite happy with it.
@ellane @cstross Are there any decent resources for learning it? The built-in tutorials etc are utterly useless. I cannot watch a video and do other things at the same time, so it has to be words and pictures, maybe even a book.
@ellane And i failed to run them through Proton :-(

@ellane While you're directing people away from Adobe, quick plug for my alter-ego, @damselfly, which is a free photo management system designed for people who want an alternative to Lightroom.

GitHub - Webreaper/Damselfly: Damselfly is a server-based Photograph Management app. The goal of Damselfly is to index an extremely large collection of images, and allow easy search and retrieval of those images, using metadata such as the IPTC keyword tags, as well as the folder and file names. Damselfly includes support for object/face detection.

@markotway if I wanted to use a Roku TV to display images from an album like a screensaver, is there a Roku app you’re aware of which can access a @Damselfly server to grab random images in an album or matching a tag?
@anotherandrew Damselfly just runs in a browser. But it doesn't have a "show random images" slideshow mode - yet. Could easily make one though. Can you raise an issue on the github describing what you want?
For context Adobe recently updated their T&Cs to say they own everything you make with their products and locked users out of cloud denying them access to their assets until they agreed. I think people would well within their rights to 'accept under duress', remove all their assets, and submit subject access requests and deletion notices.
@ellane You should also consider to move away from Windows (if not already done). Because Copilot+ creates screenshots of Everything every two seconds. That means that the Operting system itsef is like Adobe. Alos avoid Cloud usage where possible.
@ellane @cstross
This isn’t the full story… Affinity has near 1:1 feature parity on iPad as desktop, and will very much allow you to run with an Apple Pencil.
