Welche Fliege ist das?

@rahmstorf

If you have an iPhone, there's a really cool/simple way to lookup these things...

@gsymon
Could you recommend an APP for insect iding?
@rahmstorf

@vegos_f06 @rahmstorf

No, not an app.

Very simple. It uses "Visual Look Up"

• Take a photo of an insect / flower / animal and a few other things.
• Click - little square image (bottom-left) to see the photo.
• Scroll down

If the subject can be 'looked up', there will be 'Look Up ... ' text plus an 'arrow'.

• Click the arrow to see examples.

• If you don't want to keep the photo - Delete.

If you're looking in a book/magazine/web-page

• Take a *photo of the photo* and do as above.

😊

@gsymon THX! I have no iPhone and will never buy one. I even don't have a smart phone. I have a WiFi tablets wich serves me as GPS receiver! That's all. I can use flora incognita and BirdNet, both allow to save observations and id them later.

@vegos_f06

Ahh..

If you are someone who goes for country walks and you see a curious insect, then it's probably best NOT to ask anyone you're with, who happens to have an iPhone, if they could try the visual lookup ... because you'd be in danger of getting a nagging urge to buy one. 😇

@gsymon You think a 70 year old man follows random hypes? I would like to sue Apple for wireless charging, which means energy waste. Also for environmental damage by wasting resources with short live cycles of mobile phone models. There might be also human rights and environental issues In the offshore production. Hold on, believing in their green washing endevours.
@gsymon @rahmstorf Thank you, it seems to have worked well in this case.
@gsymon @vegos_f06 Wow, thanks, I learned something useful there!

Sounds like Google Lens for Android 🤔
