So today in the adventures of Tansy the Halfling Druid I killed something like 50 fish in order to get one little level 5 fish to spawn so I could get one little quest achievement and like 3xp.
The fun in #EverQuest for me is that you make your own quests, in a sense. Your own story. It has an almost sandbox like feel. There ARE quests, but you have to go searching for them, and it's not always clear how to do them. It's really up to you how you are going to play the game.
I spent quite a while just laughing with my guildies in guild chat (the guild quadrupled in size just today) about my obsessive swimming in circles looking for piranhas to murder. How the waters of Rivervale were running red with Tansy's murder spree.
And when Chomper finally spawned, it felt like a lightning bolt from the blue. I literally took a little dance break after I finally killed him. 😂
Understand that in #EverQuest, killing 50 fish isn't a thing like it would be in WoW where it would take two minutes. You have to kill two, sit and recover your mana for a while and chat with guildies, then jump back in the water with your crappy swimming skill (yes you have to skill up swimming, I got like 20 points in it today), then kill one more fish... rinse repeat.
But the nature of EQ is that there is no expectations that things are going to happen quickly if at all.
I don't know why I find it so freeing, but it is. It allows for easy multitasking, because the game isn't really trying to drag you along on rails or hold your attention. It's just a world that is there, and you explore it, and try things, and test yourself, and slowly watch yourself get bigger and stronger.
And especially with the guild I've created where no one is expecting to raid or be the best... it's just... very relaxing, in a way.
