A ★★★½ review of Typhoon Club (1985)
[English] Youthful recklessness sweeps through this coming-of-age film like a typhoon, with stark genre changes and intense consequences. In the provinces near Tokyo, some students get stuck in school during a typhoon and have to spend the night there. This experience brings them together in a strange way. It is never quite clear who, if anyone, is the main character we are watching grow up. The ensemble of characters is chaotic for a long time, as changeable as adolescence is. The first hour builds up very slowly and only hints at the approaching storm through blowing hair and rustling leaves.
