@emmaaum I've started watching #TheMidnightRomanceInHagwon and it might be your kind of #drama.

I'm 4 episodes in and there's no violence, no dramatic moments and no traumatic experiences.
It's all about status and competition. Both in the Korean society and among people working for hagwons.

@s1m0n4 @emmaaum

I watched the trailers for this yesterday. I think it looks really good.

#kDrama #TheMidnightRomanceInHagwon

@whoosh @emmaaum yes, definitely! So far I only have positive feedback. It's also very helpful in order to understand what role hagwons play in education. And why it's so difficult to change the system.

@s1m0n4 thanks for thinking of me. i appreciate it πŸ’–
on my list. will start later in the month, when it's closer to finishing. remind me if i forget.
this month is JFF Online so there will be two weeks of over-dosing on Japanese films :)
@s1m0n4 @emmaaum Thanks for this summary - it sounds VERY MUCH my cup of tea. I've had a soft spot for Jeong Ryeo Won ever since cracking up at her "American" character's REALLY thick Aussie accent in #KDrama My Name is Kim Sam Soon. She was also all kinds of awesome in History of a Salaryman (a romance Drama in which the issue of consent never comes up because the ML & FL never kiss πŸ˜‚ ) and I've liked several of her legal Dramas. So I was hoping this one would be one for me, thank you!

@ronsboy67 Change of topic but I've been meaning to write you to make sure you know about this - Japan Film Festival Online, starts this Weds for two weeks.
#JFF2024 to talk about the films and/or the two series.

JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL ONLINE 2024 is now closed. Thank you for your participation! We hope to see you soon with new streaming projects.

JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL ONLINE 2024

@emmaaum THANK YOU!

I saw one of them, We Made a Beautiful Bouquet a year or 2 back, and really enjoyed it. I've seen the lead female actor in 2 movies and 1 Drama now, and she's impressed me in them all. "Bouquet" was a beautiful film, reflective, realistic, bittersweet. In my utterly philistinic opinion, of course. #JFF2024

@ronsboy67 You're very welcome :) I thought you'd be keen.
Thanks for your thoughts on this one. I'm looking forward to it.
Would you add #JFF2024 as a hashtag to your post please? I'm hoping the hashtag will help others (like all the normal people who won't try to watch the entire festival) decide which films to watch during the two weeks.
@emmaaum Fixed, sorry!
@ronsboy67 great :) thank you
your thoughts on dramas are often interesting, so i value your thoughts on these films too and hope others find them useful as well
@emmaaum "interesting" is a wonderfully kind way of saying 'idiotsyncratic' (sic) - thank you. I am a somewhat niche demographic as a 50+ male who's a hardcore brony, that's for sure. πŸ€”
@ronsboy67 😊 here's to niche demographics
i'm a chronically ill closer to 60 woman who's gotten addicted to Thai telly and loves films & series about young people figuring themselves and life out. there isn't even a word for someone like me πŸ€”
@emmaaum Interesting you mention Thai - I haven't started any Thai yet, but every time I rant about the iconic 2004 #KDrama Full House, I get told to watch the Thai remake, which apparently ameliorates the most egregious feature of the K original. Thanks for the reminder!
@ronsboy67 i'm going to get around to that one too at some point :)
it's lost in my ptw like everything else
@emmaaum The K original still triggers my rage reflex just thinking about it - her friends LITERALLY STEAL HER HOUSE AND GET AWAY WITH IT. The Thai version does not do that, apparently.
@ronsboy67 yikes. that's a rather significant plot hole to just ignore
@emmaaum Yeah, it's not ignored in the KDrama, it's kind of central to the cohabitation setup and the friends' getting away with it is par for the course for KDramas of that era - karma was NOT a thing for many KDramas, that's for sure.
@ronsboy67 didn't mean ignore that way. brain is too sludgy to think of a better word. i'm agreeing with you
@emmaaum Ah, thanks for the clarification. I misread it because sometimes Dramas DO seem to just ignore gaping plot holes.πŸ˜€
@ronsboy67 and that was my second go at the sentence too lol:sob
