Tomorrow @mikaelacaron and I record the next @swiftovercoffee episode and we want your views for our open ballot! We're celebrating Swift turning 10, so tell us: how did it impact your life? Did it get you jobs? Did it help you go indie? Did it give you lots of fun? Tell us! ๐Ÿ‘‡
@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee I went from always struggling with Objective-C to actually mastering programming.
@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee I was always afraid of Objective-C and couldn't understand the #syntax, so I stuck to #JavaScript for quite a while. #Swift made me finally give #iOS #development another try and I love it. However, I'm just in the beginning of this journey.
@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee Swift helped me believe in myself. I was never the best student so I never thought I would be able to have a job in a technical field. After I built hello world in SwiftUI for the first time I was hooked. Itโ€™s been nearly two years now since I started my journey, and I hope to land my first role soon!
@twostraws Swift has reinvigorated my love of programming. While my day job doesnโ€™t really allow me to program (and hasnโ€™t for the last 20 years) I find joy (and some frustrations) in Swift.

@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee It enabled me to finally follow my top career goal of developing native software for the platforms I liked most. I was jumping in joy on my couch while watching #wwdc14 ๐Ÿ’ƒ

#ObjectiveC already was overwhelming and anything but fun. The alien frameworks and concepts I was not used to from the Web and Windows made it even harder to learn it autodidact in spare time. ๐Ÿ˜ต

#Swift removed the distractions and made development for #Apple devices more accessible.

@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee Started learning #ObjectiveC many years ago, but I stopped in the middle. Now I became an Indie developer, learned Swift, and my first app (an AR game) is now in TestFlight, almost ready to be delivered.

@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee

I haven't been learning SwiftUI very long, only 14 days shy of #100daysofSwiftUI

It's been a lot of fun with enjoyable struggles to learn from.

Not sure yet if I'll go indie or try to get a steady job, but I'd like to at least push something to the App Store for the experience.

I feel like the best developers are like the best geologists. "They" say the best geologists have seen the most rocks. I'd say the best developers have seen the most code.

@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee Swift gave me a new lease on life. I had just been made redundant, was 63 yrs old so what was I going to do with my life? Swift came to the rescue and then 5 years later SwiftUI gave it a boost. I am forever greatful for this and for the community as a whole.
@StewartLynch @twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee Your videos are excellent and very helpful, I really appreciate your efforts.
@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee i hated it when it was announced, I wanted them to improve ObjC instead ๐Ÿ™ƒ. After a few months I understood optionals and that all my ObjC variables could be null. After that I never looked back. Swift revitalized my career, I love types.
@twostraws @mikaelacaron @swiftovercoffee One evening while my baby son was sleeping on my tummy I just for fun tried out the Swift Playgrounds App on iPad. Liked it so much I kept playing around. 5 years and some hobby projects on the AppStore later here I am with a full time job as an iOS developer and with a nicer little side gig going with my own apps. Swift has really changed my life!
