“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”

― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Celebrating Douglas Adams on Towel Day | Infographics & Design

So why Towel Day? If you don’t know much about Douglas Adams, the most important thing to know is that he wrote humorous and fun science fiction books. This May marks the 11-year anniversary of Adams’ death. Two weeks after his death, his fans decided to commemorate him by making May 25th, Towel Day

@fringemagnet Throw yourself at the ground and miss!
@fringemagnet
I guess it makes sense when we have #ZaphodBeeblebrox running for president.
@MugsysRapSheet @fringemagnet
Beeblebrox was a hoopy frood, who really knew where his towel was, Trump is not, and does not.
"Don't forget to bring a towel!"
@fringemagnet
@fringemagnet I spent a large chunk of yesterday riffing on Deep Thought and 42 and "Don't Panic" and I didn't even process that this was today. Thank you for the reminder! 😁
@fringemagnet I have been a Douglas Adams superfan for decades. How am I only hearing about towel day now? I am ashamed to be naked, without a towel to wrap around me

@fringemagnet that towel is being used mode as a paddle than a sail?

Still I like the graphic. :)

@krupo It very clearly says "to sail" not as "a sail", and that's how the artist interpreted that book quote.

But since we are pointing out perceived errors to feel better about ourselves, I reckon you meant 'more' and not 'mode'. :)

@fringemagnet it's an excellent catch of an autocorrect typo :)

I would assume the towel would make a better sail than a paddle, but to take the artist's side, if the towel was sufficiently stiff I suppose you could paddle with it.
