don't like microsoft making decisions for you that you can't do anything about due to the market forces?

switch to linux!

here, you can have the systemd project making decisions for you that you can't do anything about due to the market forces

it's funnier because more shit breaks

yes, but that's the problem with unaccountable operating system software vendors: if you're happy or indifferent to what they do you silently accept it and therefore a part of those market forces!

@whitequark To clarify, I am not saying I'm happy or indifferent — only that I'm trying to do the best I can subject to said forces.
@whitequark Fair. I can say, though, that I've at least had better luck with my threat model lining up with the systemd project's actions than with Microsoft's.

@whitequark fuck that’s accurate

I also don’t have nearly as many Microsoft devs blocked, but maybe I should be thanking Microsoft’s presumably draconian HR department for that

@whitequark
Due to support issues I'm going to have to go back to f***ing Ubuntu, after living Poettering free (cept for Pulse, goddammit) in a different distro.
I hate systemd soooooo much.
Really hoping I can dodge Snap, which is another example of the same f***witism.
@megatronicthronbanks Snap is why I tend to recommend Linux Mint if someone needs Ubuntu (that and plus Mint is just really good for new users and general Linux usage on a desktop in my opinion and experience).
@whitequark the only technology that enables one to feel buyer's remorse despite not even costing any money!
@whitequark
Easy solution: Write your own OS on the basis of templeOS
@whitequark initd forever! (gentoo still has it as an option)
@castaway @whitequark Gentoo still uses sysvinit by default. I like it.
@whitequark can you please elaborate? or link to further reading?
