Second flag carried by Jan. 6 rioters displayed outside house owned by Justice Alito, report says

A second flag of a type carried by rioters during the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was displayed outside a house owned by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. That's according to a report published Wednesday by The New York Times. An “Appeal to Heaven” flag was flown outside Alito’s beach vacation home last summer. An inverted American flag, another symbol carried by rioters, was seen at Alito’s home outside Washington less than two weeks after the violent attack on the Capitol. Alito and the court declined to respond to the newspaper's request for comment. He previously said the inverted American flag was placed by his wife.

@GottaLaff That's a start, but honestly there should already be a clamor for #Alito to resign. He's a Christian nationalist activist, not a judge.
@BruceMirken @GottaLaff Quasireligious nationalist. I’m unwilling to assent to the destruction of the meaning of Christian. People hypocritically adopt labels, and we’ve found ways to speak about it. For example, “wrapping himself in the flag” conveys the dishonesty of the self-labeling.
@aardvark @GottaLaff I hear you, but I've done communications for a living for 25 years, and sometimes you need to use terminology that people know and understand. Shifting the language can be valuable but it takes time, and in the meantime you sometimes need to meet your audience where they are.
@BruceMirken @GottaLaff it takes time to shift the terminology. I, too, have years of communications experience. Part of the job of those with understanding is to shape the language used. The phrase here is, on its face, incorrect in that Jesus taught against much of what these Bible-wrapping powerhungry hypocrites teach. At a minimum, truth telling requires highlighting the glaring contradictions. Journalists and those who adhere to Jesus’ teachings do well to speak clearly and boldly against those who would mislead people without the knowledge to discern the fraud.
@aardvark @GottaLaff No argument. It would help a lot if actual Christians (by which I mean people who actually try to follow what Jesus preached) would be more active in calling out these fake "Christians."
@BruceMirken @GottaLaff it's what I'm doing, and I welcome help from others
@BruceMirken @GottaLaff really good podcast with Tim Alberta I listened to yesterday that I'd recommend to Jesus followers and those who don't really believe that there are any faithful Christians https://shows.acast.com/lawfare/episodes/chatter-american-evangelicals-in-an-age-of-extremism-with-ti
