All right, let's start timing when those emails come in. Or, to put it another way, how prepared were all the various parties and political movements.

Election was announced at 17.17.

Let's go. When did those emails start hitting my inbox?

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

First in at an absolutely stellar 17.17, we have #BestForBritain.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Next in at 17.18, we have the Open Rights Group.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

We have our first political party out the gates at 17.23. It’s the #LibDems for the win (in this particular race).

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Hot on their heels, we have the #Greens at 17.25.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

And the last one for now … The #EuropeanMovement landed in my inbox at 17.31.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

As of 18.06, we’ve still got nothing from Labour or the Tories.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

I do, however, have an email from my dad containing a YouTube video of an exciting new recipe for corn on the cob.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Better late than never. #Labour’s email lands at 18.08.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Open Britain’s email lands at 18.13. To be honest, I don’t really remember who they are. But they’re ready. Apparently.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Stay tuned… the Tories will definitely send an email and I can guarantee two things.

1. It will demonstrate a shocking disconnect from reality; and
2. They will be begging for money.

#GeneralElection #UKPolitics

Hey, guess what!

The Tory email landed at 19.22. And I wasn’t wrong about it.

@clacksee
Vote Labour get Torylite.

Attached: 1 image Don't tell me Sir Beige Starmer is just as bad as Richie Rich Sunak. He isn't. I'm not saying he's going to be good. He isn't good. But he will categorically not be as bad for as many people as the Tories. Would we do better under a different system? Yes. Will some things improve less than we would all like? Yes. Are there some policies where Labour isn't much different from the Tories? A few. It's still going to be a HUGE improvement to the vast majority. #GeneralElectionWatch #UKPolitics

The Wandering Shop
@clacksee "This terrible Conservative government" that we sort of enabled originally, oops.
@clacksee I think #BestForBritain are pretty great and it's no surprise for them to be so on the ball.
@clacksee facebook ads by Green Party at 17:34, but that was when I went there to check something. Could have been live a few minutes earlier
#ukpolitics
@clacksee and within 3h of the announcement, the first paper flyers come through the letter box. That I didn’t expect. Bristol Central is one of the Green Party targets so they’ll be round more often than a bunch of Mormon missionaries chasing their end of month quotas
#ukpolitics
@stevel @clacksee That’s impressive.
@JMBragg @clacksee probably preprinted some months ago: it doesn’t cover its success in the May council election.
The coordination of door-to-door delivery, though, that’s impressive. Maybe party members in each ward had a box of flyers waiting for the “go post them” order. Wasn’t raining too much here…
#ukpolitics
@stevel @JMBragg
For sure. Still hugely impressive.
@clacksee 18h into #ge2024 and the second batch of Green Party flyers come in
-A “thank for voting green in the council elections” note in a handwriting font inside an envelope with the same text at 150 dpi, no grayscale
-full “Can Bristol send Cala Denyer to Westminster?” leaflet with photos from election results day and an updated par chart asserting that greens lead labour 49% to 40%
It’s going to be a long six weeks
