My impression from reading the history laid out in this article is that in fact no, "you can't do it in Michigan." That what happened here is that the Republicans managed to in fact engineer victories in a state that is more naturally labor-oriented, and that ultimately the people they chipped loose from the Democrats to get their victory were not satisfied by what they delivered. Those people are wrong about /how/ democracy was stolen, but they are not wrong that it was.

If that's true, then we shouldn't gaslight them by pretending otherwise. We should help them to understand what went wrong, and how to recover. For some value of "we", of course... :)
