That last retoot? Linux is sometimes a bit shit?

Yeah, definitely my experience. Been using one distro or another for 20+ years. As my main machines for over ten. It breaks, it annoys, it's sometimes bizarre.

But it is absolutely mine. It doesn't try to monetize me. It doesn't actively get in my way. It doesn't change how I use it just for the hell of it.

And my ancient laptop is still supported with the most up to date stuff. Built in obsolescence? Yeah, Linux never heard of that.

@snap2grid my feelings exactly. I've never quite been able to commit to Linux, because of the A Bit Shit part. Now, I'm happy to put up with the shortcomings. I had to nuke my Windows partition the other day to test out Bazzite, and I have decided to not reinstall it. Microsoft have destroyed what little goodwill they had left with me with this whole pivot to AI bullshit. I'll take A Bit Shit over Willfully Malicious any day.
@piepants
It's been a gradual process, right enough. I'd bought a lot of expensive software and sooner or later none of it works anymore, without more expense for updates. Now? There's FOSS alternatives for me.
@snap2grid I spent the entire last weekend trying to get hardware acceleration to work on mine last week. I... don't think it was worth the time (and in the end the solution was to use an old out of date driver. Yay?)
@ferralcat @snap2grid I've never been a Windows user, so I don't know what kind of things people run into with that OS. I do know that I very seldom run into any kind of problem with the Linux distro I'm using. I install and everything works, as a rule. I wouldn't know how to install a driver since I haven't had to worry about that for ages. And, if there ever is anything that needs fixing, the developers of the OS are right there on the forum, glad to help. A Bit Shit? Wouldn't know.
