We propose to increase native tree planting by councils in public green spaces and on streets, & to involve communities in community woodland tree planting days organised by the councils.

@corkgreens

That sounds great, I love the plans and will share locally too.

Could I suggest you bring your communities even more on board, and instead of saying "organised by the councils", put the communities in the centre e.g. "with communities, for communities, supported by councils"?

The top down narrative can be so ingrained in us!

@StingrayBadger Absolutely - we want to see much more involvement with communities on nature, trees, allotments, and community gardens. 100% the right way.

@corkgreens I love this initiative. I’m intrigued by the focus on *native* trees though.

It seems likely the climate will be markedly different within 50 years, so do we not need some carefully considered diversity in the mix? https://seethroughnews.org/safely-plant-more-diverse-trees-new-woodland-now

Safely Plant More Diverse Tree Species in New Woodlands Now

Trees are canaries in our climate coal mine - what will happen to our forests & woodland in 50 years if we do nothing now?

@urlyman Native trees will support local ecology best - insects and birds particularly - but plans for adaptation have to be considered as we see how the climate changes.
