Worth emphasizing this, because most news outlets did not:

“Rep. Matt #Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Thursday ominously invoked Donald #Trump’s call to far-right violent extremists while joining the former president at his criminal trial in New York.

“Standing back and standing by, Mr. President,” Gaetz wrote on social media, along with a photo of himself positioned behind Trump at his trial.”

'Stand Back And Stand By': Matt Gaetz Parrots Trump's Call To Violent Extremists At His Trial

The House Republican, one of several who joined Trump at his criminal trial in New York, repeated a line hailed by the neo-fascist Proud Boys.

2/ Based on your replies, I think I didn’t make the point well. I’ll let Emptywheel do that for me:

Hoping someone does a systematic comparison of the ways people covered Matt Gaetz invoking terrorism directed at the justice system.

Suffice it to say, a bunch of outlets didn't find the implicit terrorist threat from a member of Congress newsworthy, which seems an odd choice.

@GottaLaff It's entirely intentional
@todwest Which part?
@GottaLaff All of it, I guess, but especially the part where the mainstream media softpedals fascism. It's an editorial decision to downplay anything that makes the violent right look bad. It's ubiquitous.
@GottaLaff There wasn't a "both sides" story to tell, so they just didn't tell the story.
@GottaLaff Odd? Or perhaps there was an other reason for it... 🤑
@GottaLaff It's a frightening development given Greg Abbott just pardoned a convicted murderer because he murdered someone Greg didn't agree with.
@MasterMischief @GottaLaff clearly republicans think pissing all over a jury of fellow Americans is just fine as long as you are a loyalist. Abbott is truly a dark soul.

@GottaLaff

He realllllly wants that VP slot. A magic wand to make his own criminal problems go away.

@ralfmaximus Yes, indeed, but not the point
@ralfmaximus @GottaLaff don’t think t could stand having a “cripple” near him.
@GottaLaff
Once again, Gaetz vying for the top spot of dumbfuckery in a very competitive race in the Dumbfuck Party, saying the not-very-quiet part out loud.

@Wileymiller Inciting violence.

I cannot believe these assholes get away with this. I mean I can, but figure of speech

@GottaLaff
As usual, if you're a republican, it's ok.

@GottaLaff

What's he gonna do, waddle aggressively toward Trump's perceived enemies while huffing cocaine?

@me_valentijn Not the point. He’s inciting violence.

@GottaLaff

What's the counter-sign...?

"Florida targeted, locked and loaded President Biden"?

@GottaLaff

these little fukwits are begging for a war... and they'll be in hiding while others die.... this shit needs to be stifled, called out and shut down before there's uncontrolled violence....

@tdwllms1 Why are you so often the only person that gets my point?

@GottaLaff

I dunno.. my age maybe.. we're pretty near the same... and I guess I see just how evil and depraved these dipshits are.... and how uncaring they are... and HEAR want they are saying

@tdwllms1 Yeah. But others are too and don't seem to get it

@GottaLaff

Your point wasn't lost. It's just so frustrating that nothing is ever done about republicans for such blatant calls to incite riots, encouraging an insurrection. This wasn't a dog whistle, it was a bullhorn.

If I'm not mistaken, this could be deemed as an act of terrorism under the Patriot Act. But the DOJ is scared shitless of launching an investigation of any MAGA member of congress.

@tdwllms1

@Wileymiller @GottaLaff

"But the DOJ is scared shitless of launching an investigation of any MAGA member of congress."

To the detriment of our nation and security... their timidity will\could be the death of many...

@Wileymiller It's getting so that I walk away from my computer more and more. I can't take the frustration and anxiety any more. @tdwllms1

@GottaLaff @Wileymiller @tdwllms1

But then we miss Rep Jasmine Crockett utterly destroy MTG with an alliteration for the ages.

@rainefish11 @Wileymiller @tdwllms1 Oh I didn't miss that. There are clips
@GottaLaff @Wileymiller @tdwllms1 🤛 to all 3 of you. Call it as you see it!

@GottaLaff

🦹‍♀️👿🖤😈*Evil!🦹‍♀️👿👿😈

@GottaLaff So far he has been untouchable, but his day is coming.
@DebR It shouldn’t take so long, dammit
@GottaLaff For sure! But like trump, he can’t stop criming and won’t shut his mouth, so it will happen, and I will be celebrating.

@GottaLaff

In his best Trump sycophantic voice....

@Atticus1956 Yes, but still, the point is not that

@GottaLaff @Atticus1956

Given how many die hard Trump supporters have been protesting outside the courthouse on a daily basis for the last four weeks, I suspect outside of people criticizing him for trying to stir up shit with his choice of words, he will have little to no actual impact.

He's part of the clown show and deserves to be ridiculed and shamed for being the sunken eyed sexual predator that he is.

@darthstar @Atticus1956 Of course he can be shamed, but whether or not people choose to react isn't the issue.

He's inciting violence. He's parroting Trump's incitements, and if that triggers ONE nutcase, then mission accomplished.

This is serious stuff.

@GottaLaff @Atticus1956

I forgot about the 'it only takes one' part...

@GottaLaff Are those boots not well-enough licked? Matt Gaetz is here.
@elronxenu Again, though, not the point. See second toot in thread.
@GottaLaff Advocating violence makes him the target of the violence he's directing at others. KARMA is a bitch!

@GottaLaff

As crazed as a character in a movie...

@GottaLaff some people... No vision.. anything for a dollar
@Bsan3 Again, the point is much more serious than this. I wish people would boost that part, because it’s vital to our democracy
@GottaLaff I can’t imagine anyone standing by Trump but I really can’t imagine anyone standing downwind of him either.
@GottaLaff They ignored it because they didn't want to get in trouble with their corporate overlords. Or with Trump.
