@caseyliss as per the recent discussion of document scanning on @atpfm: there’s a wonderful software called Paperless-ngx that can ingest documents from a smb share (or any folder). It automatically runs OCR and categorizes the files with auto-training ML classifiers.
It’s super powerful and you can host it on your Synology 😉

I also happen to have written an iOS app in SwiftUI (https://apps.apple.com/de/app/swift-paperless/id6448698521?l=en-GB) that I think goes great with this setup!
