NY Times: After the 2020 election, as some Trump supporters falsely claimed that Biden had stolen the office, many of them displayed a startling symbol outside their homes, on their cars and in online posts: an upside-down American flag. One of the homes flying an inverted flag during that time was the residence of SCOTUS Justice Alito. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/justice-alito-upside-down-flag.html?unlocked_article_code=1.sU0.dA3q.762sBv-t9c_6&smid=url-share
Supreme Court Justice Alito’s House Displayed a ‘Stop the Steal’ Flag After Jan. 6

An upside-down flag, adopted by Trump supporters contesting the Biden victory, flew over the justice’s front lawn as the Supreme Court was considering an election case.

The New York Times

@w7voa an upside-down flag is a bigger middle finger to this country that burning a flag.
and a justice has done it while the wife of another funded an insurrection.

but god effin forbid democrats even start to discuss court expansion.

i'd read this article but why? i already know our SCOTUS is totally corrupt and does not care about the average american. they care about the Federalist agenda. and no one is doing a GD thing about it.

@rustoleumlove @w7voa Soul crushing knowing how corrupt SCOTUS is.
@rustoleumlove @w7voa It's also against the law. (Seldom enforced.) I guess you don't need to obey the law when you are the law.

@LilPecan @rustoleumlove @w7voa I’m aware of all the (ridiculous to me) laws, but what are the punishments … Pretty much none?

https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title4/chapter1&edition=prelim

>> The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

>> The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

To those laws, I give the big middle finger. Is this not America. land of free speech and expression?!

4 USC Ch. 1: THE FLAG

@peterbutler @rustoleumlove @w7voa I say nothing about agreeing or disagreeing with the law. The Supreme Court has given a pass to some people for breaking these laws, citing free speech. What I question is a SCOTUS justice flouting the law in such a public manner. But again, we've learned recently, the laws don't apply to them.

@LilPecan @peterbutler @w7voa yeah, for me this isn't so much about whether or not he broke flag code/law

& more about the v obvious bias & corruption thats pervaded our highest court for a v long time. the shadow docket stuff is no conspiracy theory either. they actively take up weird, politically motivated cases to overturn laws.

i'm in Illinois -- & i cant even get my D senator to hold public hearings about it. just even to educate the public about how things are. we're falling so far, fast

@rustoleumlove @LilPecan @w7voa Yes, exactly. Not the details of the flag offense, but what the message indicates about the *deep* corruption of the court(s)

@w7voa

“It was briefly placed by Mrs. Alito in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs.”

So a simple dispute with a neighbor just accidentally turned into the universal symbols for treason or surrender? Dude is so squishy he can’t even lie convincingly.

@KanaMauna @w7voa
Served up with a side of misogyny: “BLAME MY WIFE”.
@KanaMauna @w7voa And blames the wife. Bet she can’t even reach the pole.
@w7voa wait, we have his address?
@w7voa Impeach Alito and Thomas, and stack the court. 130 justices should do it. Rotate them through cases. Fixed. (for now)
@w7voa Gotta love the fact that it took the press *checks watch* three and a half years to notice that.
@w7voa It’s amazing how none of these a-holes have the courage of their convictions. There’s always some excuse. My wife did it seems like the latest fashion.

@w7voa @trending_bot As i understand it. these allegations are misinterpreting the upside down american flag. It's not a "Stop the steal flag" it's a symbol of distress. Many folks over the years have used this act as a symbol that they believe the nation is under attack or in distress. Including those who believed Trumps lies about the election.

I think we need to keep in mind that these are people who likely love our country but have fallen to Trumps falsehoods. He's really good at playing the victim here, and these legal suits are doing more to aid him than hurt him.

I'm not saying that it's Ok that justice Alito appears to have fallen into the trump crowd, because justices are of course supposed to be impartial. but i am saying the flags symbolism is being miss reported here.

@w7voa

A good indicator that a fascist takeover is closer than anyone imagined

@w7voa
I know people who did this in 2016 after trump's election. And thank you for calling it what it is: the American flag. MAGA doesn't get to claim it.
