In early 2016 Alison acquired half a dozen dining chairs and set about restoring them. They were originally made by Elliott's Of Newbury in the early 1960s, but we think someone had re-upholstered them in maybe the 1980s. Anyway, she managed to remove all the old chipped varnish and clean up the teak, replacing the varnish with an oil that brings out the colour and grain much better. New foam for the seats, and a nice sturdy black vinyl seemed about right for the new fabric. I helped with moral support, tea, and opinions based on no expertise at all. They sure look good, eh!
@StockbridgeArch not a lot, but they were by a firm called Elliot’s of Newbury, and are a design from the early 60s. We think someone had reupholstered them in the 80s, perhaps, but aren’t entirely sure.
Got them in Vintage & Retro in Gasgow, IIRC, which is the kind of furniture paradise we simply have to avoid, mostly.
