Hi Fedi,

Just got laid off a month after buying our first house because the company is "right-sizing" its staff.

We have moved to a small town in NC hoping for better life, thinking our jobs will last us years. Small town living is great, but not many jobs around.

If anyone knows of any remote US opportunities for a graphic designer with some coding & web design experience that spent last couple years with data analysis/entry in a remote office do let me know.

Boosts appreciated ❤️ Thanks!

@FredBednarski

@FredBednarski "the company?" Would love to know who these folks are so I can avoid them.

Check the State of MN job postings. I know they're hiring, and rumor has it they've struggled enough that they're making some positions remote.

@FredBednarski Oof, good luck. It's been a rough time to look for jobs as a generalist. Do you have a portfolio?
@FredBednarski lots of politicians hiring data geeks right now
@FredBednarski Start your own firm, pay ea. Employee a living wage. Try not to get greedy and privileged as a CEO/VP/or any other "Senior Leadership position you may inhabit. Realize that the people doing the work are far more important to the company than your position and you are a steward to those employees.
Just a thought. 🤷
@decapitae @FredBednarski How is this helpful exactly ?
@FredBednarski boosted! if it at all helps with your career search, I put together some free resources from my past life working in HR that might be useful for you: https://gomakethings.com/career-guide/
Learn how to stay relevant, hack the hiring process, and make more money as a web developer.

Get it now → No one ever teaches you how to have a successful career. What should you learn next? How do you write a resume that actually gets looked at? How do you answer the question, “So, how much are you making now?” How do you negotiate a salary? How on earth do you have a 5-year plan in an industry that changes every week. This is the stuff they don’t teach you in school.

@FredBednarski I don't personally but have you checked out this job board? They existed since before covid and only post remote jobs:

@FredBednarski although that might not be what you're looking for

@FredBednarski

Hello. I suggest you become a specialist. When you are a specialist, money does not matter for the employer. And you can build edge technologies which are funded by at least millions of USD.

For instance, #Yacy search engine has got quite a good funding from NLnet. That's because they are part of building the internet. Not simply designing a website.

@FredBednarski my son gets short contract work, he's doing full stack stuff, keep looking. He gets a few months off in between and kinda likes that
@FredBednarski add tags like getfedihired or job.
@FredBednarski If you see anything at GitHub you're interested in, let me know. The entire company is remote-first so living in a small NC town is normal
