Release Notes: https://community.searchlab.eu/t/yacy-release-1-941-the-ai-release/3376
Seems https://stract.com ils no longer operational, and the developper is no working on the project any longer...
That's a pity 😥 , I liked the ideas behind this search engine, although the index was never big enough to give really relevant results.
#marginaliasearch is an alternative, it seems.
I'm not sure what it takes to run a web crawler... Or how big the index becomes..
#yacy has a decentralized approach, not sure it works
been playing around with yacy the last few days. It's a distributed search engine that crawls the web and shares the results in a DHT.
That is, mine would share its results as well, if I could get that damn port forwarding working.
so actually I've mostly played around with that. somehow the port at the target machine still isn't recognized, despite a separate caddy forward working perfectly
grrrr

This is exactly what prompted me to develop a decentralized network built on YaCy. The technology is a bit old, but it is convenient to use. So what is preventing us from making it better?
#yacy #privacy
fiddling around with an interesting app (yacy, a locally hosted distributed search engine) which unfortunately doesn't have a support chat, but has a ChatGPT-powered support instead.
honestly, I haven't found a single thing it said that was actually right. it's literally the most useless support system I have ever encountered. Not running it would have been a net benefit, as I wouldn't have to try to follow all those stupid instructions it gave me.
fuck ai.
#yacy : Am I a joke to you?

Klar, kann nicht jeder bei sich im Keller aufsetzen, aber macht ja auch nicht jeder nen #Mastodon oder #Pixelfed Server auf und trotzdem gibt's mittlerweile genug. #dezentral
