Aurora Borealis
I finally saw the Northern Lights on May 11, 2024. Here are some pictures.
Last night had me debating the honesty of heavily-edited #aurora photos. My photos in the post above were generally straight-out-of-camera but they appear a bit dim after the excitement of last night faded, while these photos are aggressive edits of the raw files.
I think seeing others' strong edits of the northern lights had me struggling with what was a reasonable expectation of what I should see with my eyes and what I could see with a camera sensor.
Kelsey Jordahl@adam it is amazing what onboard phone processing does now, too! Even the realtime view on a newer iPhone was more colorful than the naked eye.
@kajord definitely! I was using my phone all night to find areas with lots of color, then I'd set up with my X100vi. Computational photography has come a really long way in the past decade.
