The decline of the internet as a resource of information, I bet, came around when SEO started becoming a thing. What happens when you search for “phone” on google sans any adblockers? The internet has so much more potential than just being another vehicle for surface level capitalism. Then again, does the general public necessarily /want/ information? Or do they just simply want to consume?

@jacktong There are a lot of people who want information.

There are a handful of people who make it a deliberate systematic goal to seek out and poison for profit any accumulation of useful clean information.

Society should deal appropriately with that handful of people.

At any given time there are only a few big time spammers, a few robocallers, and a few black hat SEO operators. If they were deterred by serious consequences, the phone and Internet could be unpolluted again.
