Holy fuckballs.
@chopaganda Okay, it’s not just my attendance bias speaking. You>Atomic Age is equally, if not more, engaging. These guys are not fucking around.
@Phreba @chopaganda You > Atomic Age is way better than Northern Lights imo
@ry_storm @Phreba @chopaganda nothing against the Northern Lights, but I agree
@chris @ry_storm @Phreba NL > You for me — but I didn’t get to the AA yet.
@chopaganda @ry_storm @Phreba well, I don't know about WAY better, but I enjoyed it more anyway. Both are pretty awesome.
@chris @chopaganda @ry_storm very different jams and that’s another reason why Eggy is so engaging. I’ve seen shows from other bands that after 2 hours of similar sounding jams, I’m bored. Not with these guys.
@Phreba @chris @chopaganda @ry_storm Rick knew this shit was coming so had to get a new drummer to not fall behind … Alex is the man
@atownstyle @chris @chopaganda @ry_storm interesting, bc during that Fairfield show I kept thinking how badly goose would’ve probably loved to have Alex as their drummer. No offense to Cotter or Ben, but Alex is just at another level.

@Phreba @atownstyle @chris @ry_storm Alex is phenomenal. Not sure I can decide on Cotter vs Alex yet.

A little will depend on whether Rick eventually lets Cotter lead and influence direction more.

I think Goose fans are all assuming that since Cotter seems clearly superior to Ben that it will open up the jams to new directions. But the reality is unless Rick does more listening, the jams will stay 90+ percent Rick, just with a busier rhythm section.

@chopaganda @Phreba @atownstyle @chris @ry_storm chop, how did you feel about rick during recent cap run? reading between the lines of your toot, i gather you think there's still more space for rick to make?

@justinbruce @Phreba @atownstyle @chris @ry_storm I thought Rick played phenomenal and seemed very happy and inspired which led to great things.

FWIW, I don’t think there is anything wrong with Goose jams. The best Phish is often not very democratic—especially in 1.0, 2.0, and pre-2017 3.0.

But a lot of people seem to think that adding Cotter is going to make things more democratic. I just didn’t hear it at the cap. Rick was still his dominant self—which is not a bad thing.

@chopaganda @justinbruce @Phreba @chris @ry_storm the best goose was early Peter years, lots of listening on stage and Trevor wasn’t going to be left out… hopefully that’s how this summer plays out w cotter

@atownstyle @justinbruce @Phreba @chris @ry_storm For me, it’s probably late 2021 and 2022. So much more depth to what they were doing vs the dance groove/bliss peaks of 2019.

Though I do love how they wasted no time in jams in 2019.

@chopaganda @atownstyle @justinbruce @Phreba @chris Oct 21-April 22 is still the best sustained period of Goose to date by a wide margin
@ry_storm @atownstyle @justinbruce @Phreba @chris Sustained is the key word. Though I feel like the late 2022 and pre-Europe 2023 highs were higher.
@chopaganda @ry_storm @atownstyle @justinbruce @Phreba @chris agree with Chop here. I don’t think Cotter unto himself is going to change the sound of the band, but from what I heard / observed from The Cap, the band is clearly reinvigorated and ready to explore new spaces. We shall see how the jamming evolves, and I definitely think it will, but the idea that they need to be less Rick-centric ASAP doesn’t resonate with me. That’s what makes them great.
@Evdude @ry_storm @atownstyle @justinbruce @Phreba @chris I’m with you. Goose is like 10 years old and Rick is at the peak of his powers. They don’t need to be 40yo Phish.
