Results of a poll of the #nixos governance folks entitled "What do you want for the future of the Nix project governance?'" Although unauthenticated and publicly open, it was stealthy enough that I didn't know it was underway.

pol.is report

@chrism Just concentrate on the technical aspects and leave the rest to the rest.

@maridonkers @chrism well many people doing the technical work here are being driven away by a unwelcoming community and military-embracing people claiming they are nonpolitical in their actions.

There is no "focus on the technical side" without at least acknowledging that there always is a political side to how a project is (non-)governed.

@dwagenk @maridonkers can you folks work out which of you has the better plan to tell me to STFU and report back thanks
@chrism fascinating how "nazis, racists, transphobes, sexists bad" is not a shared sentiment
@jakehamilton not particularly
@chrism interesting how the group voting against that also votes against some specific other things. It's seeming fairly clear what the intent is.
@jakehamilton just say it jake

@chrism well, judging from the results of the poll here it looks like group B seems to be okay with a toxic environment. Feeling that nazis and racists should be accepted, identities shouldn't be respected, sealioning is acceptable, and ignorance of the effects of our actions is too.

Unless I'm reading the results wrong.

@chrism just to be clear Chris, this isn't a dig at or related to you. I am actually just looking at and talking about the poll results and trying to make sense of them.

@chrism hexa clarified a bit it looks like:

> Please don't treat the results as if it represents the correct groups or proportions. Without auth this can merely serve as an example of how such a poll may look.

@jakehamilton @chrism what's really fascinating is how you twist it. The question isn't "are they bad", it is "shall we preemptively bring this up in a community around package management"
@monk @jakehamilton that's not me, it's Shea Levy. But I agree with it. I don't want to talk about it here or anywhere right now, I'll either have more to say about it later or not, depending on what happens over the next few days with the discussions.
@chrism @jakehamilton I was answering "fascinating how "nazis, racists, transphobes, sexists bad" is not a shared sentiment" manipulation specifically.
@monk @jakehamilton yeah i realized it after you sent it, i forget who is arguing for what :)

@monk is that twisting it? The question on the poll says:

We should make it blatantly clear that racists, sexists, transphobes, Nazis, and fascists aren't welcome in the Nix community.

To me that reads as "are these things acceptable in the community?"
