DISASTROUS MOUNTAIN VALLEY PIPELINE โ›ฐ๏ธ

No one has ever built a pipeline like the #MountainValleyPipeline before. Why? Because it's an endless wave of #disasters waiting to happen. It's too big, and there are too many mountains, waterways, caves, and communities in its path.

So, who would possibly finance such a terrible idea? Unfortunately, local governments, the federal government, and #BankOfAmerica.

1/5

For years, #frontline and regional #communities have fought back against the impacts the Mountain Valley Pipeline (#MVP) and its Southgate Extension will have on their #health, #ecosystems, and the #climate โ€” and they successfully stalled construction! But in the Summer of 2023, construction resumed. Even ahead of completion โ€“ ecosystems and communities are already feeling major impacts, like #displacement, #landslides, and contaminated drinking water.

2/5

The #MVP is a #methane gas pipeline system set to span over 303 miles across #Appalachia, with an additional 75-mile "Southgate" extension. It's being built WITHOUT the #consent of local and impacted communities. That's why activists and allies took to the streets of #Charlotte, North Carolina, today to call out Bank of America and other financiers for their role in this human rights and #ClimateDisaster. Regional leaders from Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina

marched through Charlotte, calling to account for all the banks financing this disastrous project. The march culminated with a mock trial: deeming #BankOfAmerica guilty of #complicity.

Bank of America loves to use slogans like "Better Money Habitsยฎ," but their heinous habits continue to pollute communities, destroy ecosystems, and cook our shared climate. In 2022 alone, Bank of America provided #Equitrans โ€” one of the companies behind MVP โ€” with over $100 million!

4/5

So how does #BankOfAmerica explain their own #money habits when they're literally #poisoning the water we drink and the air we breathe?

There's no telling what damage the #MVP will cause if it's completed. With a #pipeline like this, it's not IF a leak or explosion will happen, but WHEN. And how many, and often?! Demand that Bank of America be held accountable for their dirty financing and devastating impact.

For people, not pipelines,
