Most people in NSW won't know this, but half of Eraring's generators are offline because of "unscheduled maintenance" - i.e. failures. You won't see this on any major news site, but here it is:

I knew because I use Amber Electric and there was a price spike of up to $18 per kilowatt-hour (!!) - normally power here is around 20c-40c/kwhr during that peak time.

Coal is not reliable, and it's not cheap.

Thar she blows! NSW hits the CPT and enters Administered Pricing (until Wed 15th May at least) … I think for only the 2nd time ever?

At 19:55 (NEM time) on Wednesday 8th May 2024, the NSW region commenced Administered Pricing for ENERGY and 10 x FCAS commodities, following a rapid spell of spot price volatility.
