Apple SVP of marketing, apparently: so our core message should really be that Apple will destroy all the things you love, and sell you a joyless piece of glass to replace them

sorry, we know this is low-hanging fruit, just, we can't get it out of our head hours later

the horrible part is we don't think they were trying to horrify viewers!

@ireneista oh no what did they reveal lol
@aeva it's an ad in which musical instruments, fancy cameras, an arcade cabinet, pottery items, representations of well-loved characters, etc are all crushed by a giant press. very detailed videography of each thing being destroyed.
@ireneista @aeva also, even at a less deep emotional level, i don't get the point of the ad, all these things being replaced by a tablet or smartphone was pretty normal 10 years ago, let alone now
@tay @ireneista I caved and watched it because people kept talking around it and I didn't see Irenes' reply until a moment ago. It's a fairly heavy handed statement that all culture and self expression can and will be forcibly replaced by their tiny little prison made out of hype and whatever, and that's all there will be.
@tay @ireneista I suppose maybe they thought it would be shocking, evocative, and grab people's attention.

@aeva @tay sigh yeah if you look up-thread, we wrote more about it

we're not convinced they were trying to shock. evocative, sure, they were trying to evoke feelings, but they don't seem to have really thought about what kind of feelings

@aeva @tay that's just our opinion though
