I'm on my way to Detroit for @railsconf !!

I can't wait to see so many of my old friends and meet some new ones! I'm really excited about the program this year - speakers and the Hack Day, which I thought was fabulous at RubyConf last year.

This year I'm trying something different - volunteering! If you see me in my black RailsConf t-shirt, stop me and say hi! I'll answer any questions and help if I can!!

Off to a bit of a rough start. I left early for the airport, so of course there were no delays and no line for security. I found myself at my gate 2 hours early. In other news, I'll be carrying a new umbrella at @railsconf, so the rest of you don't have to worry about rain.

2 hours at the gate was enough time to finish a sleeve on my travel project, and just before boarding, I discovered I have two right sleeves.

Now at the end of the flight, I have half a left sleeve, and a mess of yarn.

🙃🙃🙃

The flight was nice though! Thanks to the ✨magic of timezones✨ it took less than 2 hours, and I got two windows this time! It's hard to be grumpy when witnessing the majesty of flight and human innovation.

I'm at Opal Grove Games, Aisha Blake's game store!! Just won a game of Patchwork - a 2 person quilting game! It's so nice to see her again!

Opal Grove does game rentals at $3.50/person/hour, or on Thursdays, they have unlimited rentals for $5/person!

Just took the Riverwalk from the Marriott to Huntington Place while volunteering with @debborafernandess !! #rubyfriends

It's so beautiful, and you can wave hi to Canada on your walk to @railsconf !!

I'm so excited to be volunteering at @railsconf this year! It's amazing to see everything set up and quiet before everyone arrives tomorrow!

If you don't have your badge yet, come see me tomorrow at registration! ✨

Early morning view of the Detroit River and Bell Island. Big day today!

I haven't shared this with many, but last year I had family members hospitalized or die the week before every event I attended. Many of you only know me when I'm putting on a brave face while mourning on the inside.

With this RailsConf being the penultimate one, I'm feeling the same way. I'm not ready for it to be over. 😭

At least this time, we're all feeling it together? Let's give each other a bit of grace, and do our best to make the most of the time we have left!

A New Era for Ruby Central Events

A special announcement for the Ruby community We normally announce next year’s RailsConf location at the end of the conference, but this time we are going to do something a little different and share two pieces of news: We are delighted to announce that we want to involve you

Ruby Central

Great and informative talk from @excid3 on what Rails Plugins are and how to build them!

Fun fact from the talk: Your Rails app is a plugin!

This talk on contributing to Rails was absolutely fantastic!! I don't know how they got Adam Driver ( @collin_jilbert), but this was such a clear and delightful story about contributing!

I loved @kaspth's talk on riffing! Riffing is a design strategy where you build semi-functional code in a single file in order to figure out the code feel of your design without heavily investing in tests, migrations, or checking documentation for implementation specifics.

Huge props for 2 live demos in this talk, one of which featured audience participation!!

@ChaelCodes that's some really
kind words! Thanks so much for coming and also grabbing the mic to make a suggestion.
@kaspth It was fantastic and I want to try riffing now!
@ChaelCodes hell yeah, let's do it! If you swing on by the Oaken table between 2pm-4pm we can riff too.
@kaspth Yes!!! See you then! ✨
