HELLDIVERS 2 will soon actually require a PlayStation Network account

Although the Steam page for HELLDIVERS 2 has clearly stated since release that a PlayStation Network account is required, you actually haven't had to link them. That will change really soon.

Helldivers 2 is getting review-bombed on Steam due to this incoming change.
@gamingonlinux I don't understand why so many people are upset with this, it's not like you have to pay for the online, it's just an account
@Tau some of the complaints I've seen have been that signing up for a PlayStation account isn't possible from their native country, so they might be unable to continue playing - which seems like a reasonable reason to be upset.

@hogsy @Tau
It's actually even worse than that. There are countries where both PSN and Steam are active that don't have the ability to link PSN and Steam accounts. EU countries like Poland.

The whole thing is a poorly handled clusterfuck that should have been implemented day 1. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to wait and screw their large portions playerbase over this late after release, despite planning long before.
At least then people could immediately refund.

@hogsy @Tau
Oh! And in reality what this move accomplishes, even if it didn't screw over people, is create a massive workload surge for their community and support staff for *no* reason. Which I consider to be kind of a dick move.

@MissAemilia @hogsy @Tau I think you found the reason...

> At least then people could immediately refund.

@kevingranade Yeah, I've considered that but... giving them the benefit of the doubt. From what I can tell the reason is technical + managerial more than malice. I'm praying it stays that way.
@Tau @gamingonlinux I kinda get it; it’s a bothersome thing, doesn’t add anything, takes your personal data by linking it to an email address. It’s like what Ubisoft does with their launchers, maybe?
@Tau @gamingonlinux Some people don't want to have yet another account to manage that doesn't provide a tangible benefit to them in a way that they desire.
@Tau @gamingonlinux Why do players have to create an account on a website they never use? That's dumb
@Tau @gamingonlinux there’s no good reason and sony has been hacked a bunch of times in the past, so it’s kinda a security risk.
With the shoe on the other foot, I don't think there's any benefit for a consumer to have an account compared to before. Naturally a lot of people will be upset when they're not getting anything out of it, and there's lots of unknowns of what the account actually means for them.
