After four years, I finally lost my COVID virginity. I started noticing symptoms Tuesday evening, and by Wednesday morning I had a positive test.

It’s been interesting watching my vitals, as tracked by my Apple Watch. I have an Apple Watch on 24 hours a day.

In red is my resting heart rate, which was 47 the day before I noticed symptoms and is 60 three days later. In blue is my average sleeping respiratory rate, which increased from 12.3 breaths per minute to 14.3. And in purple is my sleeping wrist temperature, which was 1.3F above baseline last night. I really don’t have much of a fever—my forehead thermometer says 98.6—but there was a measurable increase.

My heart rate variability has increased over the last few days, which is the opposite of what I would have expected. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve been participating in the Scripps DETECT study for several years (https://detect.scripps.edu). You give them permission to see your vital stat history and report symptoms and diagnoses to them, and they use that to find correlations between the data and COVID and other respiratory diseases. It works with Apple Watch and Fitbit data.
