Did the Mayor just say that it she is voting against bike lanes because of disabled people when the literal only person in a wheelchair was strongly in favor of bike lanes?!
@DemonHusky "I'm talking about not only senior citizens or people that have disabilities that can't get around and can't get out. We are the city council for all the citizens, cyclists, pedestrians, senior citizens, people of color, and I often say this and I want to say it again, we have to make sure we are representing the broadest range of opinions. And who's not in the room, and who is never in the room, and it is our job to reach out and speak to those people and engage them." - Simmons
@crschmidt @DemonHusky Patty's "many people didn't show up tonight because they think we're not listening" (paraphrase) pissed me off about as much. If that's a sincerely held belief, how is ignoring the 300 people who DID show up an appropriate response? She's just insulting our intelligence with that utter nonsense
@jfsheehan @crschmidt maybe people don't feel heard when you have 250 actually show up and you don't listen? Or 1000 people write to you and you spend 15 mins bloviating about why they are all right but you don't give a fuck because, despite spending a month thinking about it, you came up with no real reasoning to vote this way but you just know deep down you think Paul is sexy or something
