I increasingly believe this election will be a referendum on whether anything matters anymore. There's no rational case for Trump, but there's a loud contingent on the left that just wants to burn it down. Combine that with low information voters and Republicans circling the wagons around their guy, and you have the outlines of a calamity.

They think things need to get really bad to "wake up" the masses who will then take to the streets. Interesting how the police have been arresting 100s in by + large peaceful pro-Palestine protests involving putting up tents on university campuses.. but J6 protesters were "allowed" to swarm into the Capitol bc of Trumps inaction and threaten to hang the VP.
Quite a contrast.
I know a bunch of white people walked away from j6 free, and that is generally the pattern when you see people supporting further consolidation of power into fewer hands, but Trump did everything possible to let them walk into the Capitol that day. He even removed enforcement teams and confused the chain of command to confuse the response even further.
The were assaults on officers. I'm sure they wanted to detain more people but simply could not under the conditions at the time.
At least they have been pursued since.
I suspect/expect that when all is said and done, the majority of protests will not have had any substantial police action.
It is unfortunate that the handful of university administrations that have failed to exercise the patience and use of other tools to deal with protests are overwhelming the majority that have in the nation's consciousness.
It's also unfortunate that protest leadership in a very few places have actively sought out police confrontation.

It always amazes me that people seem to think the POTUS has an on/off switch for these foreign issues. Whether Biden or Trump, the only one that can stop attacks in Gaza is Netanyahu. And the only one who can stop attacks in Ukraine is Putin.
And if he cuts off aid, it won't stop Netanyahu, and the US has no leverage any longer.
