I’ve just had an email that my energy bill direct debit is increasing again to £138 a month! I need to do something about our power usage… 😭

What do others use, is this just me?

At 25p/kWh when nobody is here we’re using about £1.30 per day of electricity which is about 5kWh. That will be mostly my “homelab”.

The rest is contributed to by the fact the washing machine and tumble dryer are on most days because of the kids. An average day is around £2.50-£3.00 just in usage (10-12kWh).

The #homelab is only about 150w total which isn’t too bad in my eyes but energy costs are just silly these days.

I’ll have to have a look at the worst offending components and see whether it’s worth spending money to save money on some more modern kit.

I can always eBay the old stuff…

@cablespaghetti do you have time of use power costs ? If so maybe it’s worth getting a large solar power bank (minus the solar panels) and switching to that during the expensive peak hours. Have been considering that but undecided on a 2kwh power bank like an #EcoFlow or just biting the bullet and getting a #teslapowerwall for the whole house.

@Wtangofoxtrot It would definitely pay off over time with prices being what they are. However we’re thinking of moving in the next two or three years so it’s not one for this house.
