Spice racks are adorable. Your wee lil rack can store 16 containers? That's so cute. Anyway this is what a spice rack looks like for people who cook a lot

And we still constantly find recipes with spices we don't actually have

@eniko I want several spice racks that are open enough to show the label of all the spices and also easy to grab. So far I haven't found what I want, so I'm considering having to design and 3D print it myself ...

@Reina i do not know where you are but i got one of these from target. It’s not perfect but I at least have two tiers of viewable ones?

@eniko I have a magnetic spice rack on the wall, a tub of herbs and spices at one end of the kitchen, a section in the kitchen cupboard, and various jars squirrelled away wherever else they'll fit.
Recipe-wise I'll usually find something that works as a base, then after I've gotten used to it I'll make changes as I like.
One thing I want to try is a shakshuka made with green capsicums instead of red, with the cheese, herbs, and spices set to a more Italian theme, 'cause I noticed green tastes
@eniko more appropriate to a pizza than it does the standard shakshuka.
@MachineLordZero @eniko my dream spice storage is a magnetic spice rack that uses hexagonal jars. I’m jealous lol
@2d @eniko The jars on mine are round. It's one of those ones where you can see through the top how much is left, and twist it open up to either four little holes, or one big one.
Had to tighten the lids by squeezing them with rope, though. They fell off otherwise.

@2d @MachineLordZero @eniko With big, clear labels (colorcoded???).

I’m always kind of torn between drawers and racks: drawers are great for larger storage and keeping the jars from suffering the buildup of cooking oils that being right next to the stovetop causes, but then the jars are not as continuously in sight as they are on the counter, you need to make space for the open drawer, and it’s annoying to open it repeatedly to get another jar.

@eniko I gave up on the racks. It's a big drawer right under the stove now. Not completely full yet, but the other things in there move out bit by bit

@eniko

In my bachelor days I solved the space problem emptying all my spice into one container.
Worked like a charm! 😎

@eniko I'm using a couple of old IKEA CD towers. Trying to keep things in sections.
@jfrench that's a really nice idea! might have to steal that

@eniko This does not look like a spice rack for people who cook a lot.

The rack should be much larger, and the containers should be larger as well. That amount of paprika powder lasts me about a week or two.

@eniko This one always makes me laugh.
The packaging says 'just a pinch' - I have to throw in like half this container every time I use it.
@Dutchinvestor never enough (smoked) paprika in a dish tbh
@eniko I go for the bags - more spice. My spice cupboard is so ridiculously full of opened bags of spice, I’ve had to start putting them in baskets in groups that make some kind of sense.
My kitchen has this weird kind of spice draw I don’t use, because it’s too small.
I’ve even started growing some herbs and spices, because I need MOER! My turmeric plant’s leaves are starting to die back, so I should have fresh turmeric soon!
@Teaceratops im not sure you can even get spice in bags here

@Teaceratops @eniko So many of my spice bags have leaked that there's this uniform brown powder in the bottom of the drawer that simultaneously tastes like nothing and everything.

Fits better than bottles though.

@eniko Life hack: get yourself a set of square containers. Gets you (4/π - 1) * 100 (= 27) percent of extra spice space!
@eniko Here is my version that was built with a laser cutter to address that issue. Still "only" 35 spaces but works for me.
@eniko
This is the spice rack I insisted on when we renovated the kitchen. We had to special-order it. Note the row on top. Not pictured: the spice cabinet, for the ones we don’t use as often, the ones we don’t have in jars, and refills.
@eniko Looks like the top of my fridge.
@eniko trying my best with that.
@eniko "What is wattleseed and why do I already have it?"
