@tariq @jdp23 Hey, Tariq, congrats and good luck! I'm in the wrong country for anything more than moral support, but love to see community builders rather than profit-minded grey infra builders going for local councils.

💯 And privacy advocates too! I don't know if it's a big enough deal to be a campaign issue, but the current city council approved ShotSpotter and is letting SPD basically ignore the Seattle Surveillance Ordinance. I wonder is there a way to connect with the local Stop ShotSpotter coalition?

@Johannab @tariq

@jdp23 @tariq oh good grief. Yanno, as a Canadian, I am not at all disinterested in US politics even at this level, because things like ShotSpotter are the sort of bullshit that 40% of our own elected officials see in the US and go "yeah, we should get us some of that". 😬

The more US cities that loudly push back, the less traction RWNJs in AB and SK and ON can get.

Agreed. They're a little old (November 2022) but I've got a lot of #StopShotspotter references in https://privacy.thenexus.today/shotspotter-in-the-news/

Also @tariq https://privacy.thenexus.today/stopshotspotter-in-seattle-update-november-3/ has a bunch more names of Seattle folk who were opposing ShotSpotter -- Angélica Cházaro of UW, Shaun Scott, community organizer and policy and field manager for the Statewide Poverty Action Network, LéTania Severe of Solidarity Budget, WA People's Privacy
