Getting dangerously close to designing/building a compact 8020 sim racing rig for home. Have been very inspired by this setup that I came across on YouTube that compacts down into a closet-storable cube https://youtu.be/HAS9JNeF0xQ #simracing

@patrickod Cool! I got into sim racing in 2020-2021, but the space requirements of a typical setup are significant!

Will set it up again once Aiden is old enough to enjoy playing (or at least watching).

@smcbride I recall you posting about the fun you were having racing and it definitely served as inspiration to take the plunge here. Space is most certainly the premium for this setup. Frustratingly the market seems to be cornered by people with a second bedroom to dedicate to the hobby so I'll have to be a bit more creative myself. I'll keep you posted on my progress. With any luck we'll see each other on the track ๐Ÿ’œ
@patrickod The setup in this video looks incredible! ๐Ÿ˜
@smcbride You might also like this other setup using a gokart seat that is very space-efficient. The author also very helpfully detailed the component list in t-slot extrusion required and it's not that much. https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/u8s05f/sim_rig_with_kart_seat_and_csl_dd_upside_down/
@patrickod Wow, thatโ€™s also very nice! (Although I would spring for a higher seat back because ouch my back/neck. But thatโ€™s not kart authentic I guess! ๐Ÿ˜…)
@smcbride yeah something I'm keeping in mind. My current plan is to build the rig from effectively back to front seat last in the hopes that I can source something small but with a higher back. While I think the original design is very cute having the kart seat able to collapse into the cube I'd happily keep a separate seat part to maximize the comfort (I particularly enjoy the use of seat belts as a quick-release mechanism for attaching it to the frame)
