@leroc I often describe him as “the greatest explorer you’ve probably never heard of”. He’s often someone I mention in relation to West Africa, as he was the first to write about the Mali empire, including jeli/jali traditions and instruments.
@cassana So he's rather important to ethnomusicologists too, very cool.
