My music stopped playing, the phone rang, I answered it.
After speaking for a few minutes, I hung up and the music started up again.

It took me a second to realize that the music wasn't coming from my phone, it was coming from my computer.

#KDEConnect is groovy, y'all. It pauses your music when a phone call comes in. (MPRIS-compatible player required, of course, but even mpv on the command line can do that)

#KDE #Plasma

@RL_Dane I've had the same exact experience, but with watching YouTube. It works so well and naturally you don't even notice it until after the fact!
@RL_Dane wait that's super awesome, what a cool feature! I've been off in GNOME land and I'm always super interested and impressed with the other tech tree making determined and awesome progress on new stuff. I gotta try that out

@paul

The #KDEConnect Android app works with Gnome, too! Check out the GSConnect extension.

@RL_Dane oh no way! Will give that a shot, thank you!

@paul

Let me know how it works for you!

@RL_Dane @paul BTW, GSConnect is depreciated on Gnome 46. If you're using that, Valent is the successor app. At the moment, it is in alpha stage (but works just fine on my machine).
@RL_Dane it also stops videoplayback :)
@RL_Dane That is pretty impressive, I only use "KDE Connect" to receive the notifications on the desktop, I feel like I'm wasting it lol

@guskikalola

My biggest use of it is sending text messages from the desktop.

Life changer!

@RL_Dane I got so used to this, that anytime my music stops playing, I instinctively grab my phone to answer a call.

@RL_Dane I like sending 2FA codes from my phone to my desktop via KDE Connect (clipboard sharing).

Also nice for sending a URL from your desktop browser to someone via text.

@BoydStephenSmithJr

Yes! I also use it for forwarding screenshots from plasma to my phone without having to save it as a file.

I use the kdeconnect-sms feature a LOT, although I've found it to be rather finicky/flaky.

@RL_Dane Sometimes my music on my phone starts playing when I hang up, whether it was playing before or not (though this hasn't happened for a few years now, so maybe they've fixed it somehow, despite it being in apps that haven't really been updated)...

@RL_Dane Oh cool, I didn't know about MPRIS until now! I've always wondered why mpv doesn't show up in my system tray while VLC and Firefox do when they play audio. Turns out that I needed to install mpv-mpris.

Also, is the name MPRIS supposed to a pun on "empress" or something? Maybe someone should make a useless MPRIS plugin for uWSGI emperor servers.

@a

Well, it certainly is MPRISsive. 😂

@RL_Dane @a this works really well with a New Zealand accent. 😃

@RL_Dane
The Android phone as remote touchpad has come in handy several time for me, this project has come a long way for the collective benefit.

Thank you to the contributions.

@RL_Dane I was reading this in my head as a creepypasta. I was like "but how did it pauses then?!?!" Then I relized it's propganda from my favorite desktop.
