The DWP demonstrating (again) they are callous & inhumane.

unpaid carers should be cherished & values, not punished....

How do the people who work at the DWP live with themselves?

Fined ยฃ6,000 for tiny mistake: carer penalised for extra shift at supermarket

Helen Grater claimed carerโ€™s allowance while looking after seriously ill partner โ€“ and unknowingly exceeded earnings threshold

@ChrisMayLA6 they should learn from the more co-operative approach taken by the HMRC in cases of major & corporate tax fraud

@nicbest

indeed... one might even suspect there was a class issue here....

@ChrisMayLA6 only if we live in a plutocracy.

@ChrisMayLA6 @nicbest sadly if you are a normal person HMRC are even worse than the DWP. I know, I've dealt with both and sued HMRC in the end for disability discrimination 11 years ago now and tax credits were just as awful as this carer stuff.

The DWP are dreadful, wasting lots of resource over small mistakes/misunderstandings and hold investigations over people for months or years and with disabled claimants, don't meet their access needs.

DWP needs dismantling completely and something new.

@NatalyaD @ChrisMayLA6 @nicbest I had child tax credits for a while. It was awful.

It was on me to make sure it was calculated right, but it was impossible to know because they never said how it was worked out. I ended up paying back a couple of times (thankfully small amounts) but I never understood why.

@ChrisMayLA6
The problem doesn't lie with DWP staff but with the incompetent and out of touch WM establishment
@ChrisMayLA6 my only conclusion is that they employ a lot of sociopaths at the DWP, or least people high on the "Milgram Obedience Scale"
@ChrisMayLA6 How much Covid fraud was simply written off? ยฃ4.5 billion was it?

@ChrisMayLA6 When I worked for a supermarket I was constantly asked to do more hours when starting a shift. It's hard to decline any extra work if you're worried about your job

Carers allowance is so inadequate people are forced to watch every penny on top of their exhausting care giving.

Carers do a FANTASTIC job, and SAVE so much money with the neverending loving care they provide, so the 'State' don't need to. They should be respected and appreciated not demonised.
