Happy 96th birthday to Professor Tom Lehrer, one of my musical heroes since boyhood. He’s given so much joy and laughter to so many of us (pigeons, not so much).

Also, not long ago he released his entire catalogue into the public domain, so that anyone can use it royalty-free. What a guy. #music

@SazeracLA seeing this my kid tells me he invented the jello shot (while bored at college)

@SRDas For the modern jello shot, this is apparently true! Although Jerry Thomas was making jellied punch with isinglass gelatin in the 1860s, it wasn’t what we think of as a jello shot.

All that AND a mathematician!

@SRDas @SRDas Speaking of mathematicians and college professors, today I learned that Dan Grimaldi, the actor who played Philly and later his twin brother Patsy Parisian on “The Sopranos,” only acted on the side. He was a mathematician and has been a college math professor for decades. I think he may still be at age 78!

“It won’t be cinematic” was one of the greatest lines & scenes in the series.
