Total solar eclipse, April 8 2024.
Lake Champlain, Vermont.

Photo is the full frame, completely unedited, straight out of the camera. (Except for a modest reduction in image dimensions necessary to post to fediscience.)

I should have expected the birders would be ready with some splendidly long lenses!

Fantastic shot. And I imagine there are more...

@ct_bergstrom nice work mate, thanks for getting me to see it!
@ct_bergstrom Amazing - what a shot! This must have been a wonderful experience!
@ct_bergstrom Oooo, lovely photo! I was at Lake Champlain too and it was so cool :D

@ct_bergstrom

Right place, right time. Good pic.

@ct_bergstrom@fediscience. Must've been awesome, almost as wild as seeing the rain just not stop for 3 days until mountains wash away and rivers reach their 100-year flood lines, natural phenomena that make us feel tiny... I also love naked exposure to the giant fusion reactor in the sky's radiation...

@ct_bergstrom

Fantastic! 😎 🌞

Is that a prominence at the lower left? 🤔

*edit: and also one quarter to the right??

@5ciFiGirl Indeed. They are much clearer in edited version of the shot.
@ct_bergstrom
Great shot! In my view, the closest so far to what we experienced with binoculars from the south of Québec.
@ct_bergstrom Beautiful shot - this looks the closest to what I remember seeing from Newport, VT on Monday
@ct_bergstrom oh hey, I was there. We were so fortunate to see the prominence. Your photo is one of the best I’ve seen but nothing quite captures what that felt like.
