Do you agree? #linux
@nixCraft I need Anger Management for Windows, and Drugs. Tranquilizers mostly
@hankarus @nixCraft I'd say most often one needs an exorcist.
@alphasixtyfive @nixCraft That would imply there is an evil force in it. I think it‘s just chaos, neutral evil chaos.
@hankarus @nixCraft Enforcing absurd hardware requirements for Windows 11 was not evil enough? :-)

@alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft

200 million computers running windows will be abandoned by Microsoft, no support, no new malware removal, no virus help, abandonware.

If you own a Windows 10 machine, you can throw it onto the far too big tech junkpile, or put linux on it, ffs, please.

Or give a thousand away to schools or free computer activists in cities everywhere.

Any Windows 10 machine can be saved, reborn, made ACTUALLY USEFUL, without surveilance.

Microsoft's draconian Windows 11 restrictions will send an estimated 240 million PCs to the landfill when Windows 10 hits end of life in 2025

But the progress must go on, right?

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft I think that there should be tribunals held for how much E-Waste is going to be caused by Microsoft's intentional euthanization of reasonable computers...

We as Society already hold Apple to a high standard as we should and I think it's high time we also start pointing some serious blame at Microsoft for a copycatting apple when it comes to e-waste. We can do better as a society and we need to and we should..

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft professionally come from this as an A+ Certified Technician and an electrical engineer I think the cut off should be at 32-bit systems...
If you're still on a core solo it is truly time for you to upgrade however I don't see much functional difference between a first gen i5 and current ones.as far as functionality is concerned. There are tons of fourth and 5th and 6th gen CPUs that are still quite viable and even some of the seventh gen systems even include TPM 2.0 so Microsoft being stingy with an 8th gen cut off is completely based on marketing not based on engineering...

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft the argument has been based on vulnerabilities and yes 8th gen did manage the patch some pretty decent loopholes when it comes to things like Specter Etc however the current bug of SuperFetch affects both of apples M1 and M2 chips and even the x86 based until 13th gen ships so really using security as a means to cut certain things off isn't really a good way to delineate a new and an old CPU. It's just too arbitrary. What is secure enough and shouldn't the end user have that right to decide.

Granted I had a discussion with a Sr Windows developer a few months ago and he said to me "" users are retar..... they shouldn't have the right to control their own operating system for their own Safety and Security""

You know it's bad when they say the quiet part out loud...

YIKES!

@Warlockofwires @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft

Except that seems to blame users fir Windows design failures past and present,
Its not that microsoft cant support the Win 10 machines, they dont want to. Because money. I assume a deal was struck with PC makers.

There are 240 million good WIN 10 computers out there that will be useful when running linux.

Help organizations and freinds save ALOT, A GREAT DEAL of money.

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft oh it totally is flawed design. I'm darn near 40 years old..
Ive see it. ...
Microsoft is just trying to cover their ass and then make a massive profit off of people's ignorance and no matter what the reason is they are doing things that are so anti-consumer they should be smacked harder back than they were in the 90s..

This may be the one historical opportunity for the Linux Community to gather more supporters. I just don't see a massive uptick that corresponds with this..

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft personally I use Mac OS for the obvious reasons of compatibility with my work software but I'm as equally at home and happy on Iris BSD or any flavor of Linux. They all are about 80% the same when it comes to how they drive and really windows is the odd duck out. Actually that reminds me I should probably install mac ports on my M2 Ultra. I need to get back into working on my photo galleries and I really do love f-stop.

Professionally I think WSL is a trojan horse. Embrace extend extinguish...

@Warlockofwires @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft

Really? Serving up Microsoft FUD, even now?

@kevinrns @alphasixtyfive @hankarus @nixCraft I don't trust abusers. The one single act that made me turn against Microsoft
More than anything else is the underhanded forced upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 using the gwx update that happened in the late 2010s. This abuse to Consumers was was an act of malware. They even lost in a lawsuit and that's saying something..
