Had a good day today. Helped a bunch of people to step forward on their creative journey. I feel useful on days like today.

Most of my mentoring goes to people with serious economic privilege, and I recognise that is less than ideal. Today's group paid $50 for four hours, lunch and a copy of the book.

That was thanks to Tamron, Hobolite and Ted's Camera stores. Their sponsorship made it possible.

@ewen That’s a fuggin’ kind fee and I think you guys deserve more than that, for the clientele you’re working with, and what’s more, I think you can easily ask and get double.

Shellie and I get to bill our time to Tamron and Hobolite. We get paid still.

You could argue there are better ways to make a dollar, and it's a very demanding day on both of us. But we got to work with a great team (local distributor Blonde Robot) and get to create a seriously unique experience for 19 lucky people.

Not every gig is this rewarding. Not every client is actually worth our commitment.

@ewen I feel exactly the same about the dumpling workshops I’ve run, which I have weird crossover quals/skill (like food safety supervisor + psych, counselling & disability etc) to do for autistic children and teens if they want me to. They kept selling out and I just can’t physically do that many of them, they’re so much work. I could run one weekly as a job and fill them all. People always asking when I’m doing more because of word of mouth, but I just can’t.

šŸ¤ on so many levels!
