Had a good day today. Helped a bunch of people to step forward on their creative journey. I feel useful on days like today.
Most of my mentoring goes to people with serious economic privilege, and I recognise that is less than ideal. Today's group paid $50 for four hours, lunch and a copy of the book.
That was thanks to Tamron, Hobolite and Ted's Camera stores. Their sponsorship made it possible.
Plus they got a tonne of Shellie, and a chance to step into a slam dunk scenario where the light, styling and lens is set up for them to practice success. To experience their own best.
I don't think in life we get a chance very often to simply reach our own best. It's a very precious thing and I wish for everyone to hand that opportunity.
In a world where confected emotions and fake images are flooding every online space, spending an entire day with real people, real food, real smiles and real joy was something more than a little special.
Being offline for the day was just icing on the cake!
Shellie and I get to bill our time to Tamron and Hobolite. We get paid still.
You could argue there are better ways to make a dollar, and it's a very demanding day on both of us. But we got to work with a great team (local distributor Blonde Robot) and get to create a seriously unique experience for 19 lucky people.
Not every gig is this rewarding. Not every client is actually worth our commitment.

We are pushed to the very limit of our social tolerance on these things.
We are both introverts who get quickly drained by social interaction. The panic on our faces when we discovered they'd booked 20 people instead of the usual 12!!! I'll be ready to go again in about two months :)
