Hi Seattle! I'm here for #PyCascades

Wandered through Pike Place Market and the International District. Continued my taiyaki quest! Ate sweets from several places! Looked at yarn! Picked up some new manga to try!

Looked at birds this morning at Union Bay Natural Area/Center for Urban Horticulture. It was great! Ran into two organized walks and several individual birdwatcher. No lifers (too similar to home) but 6 year-birds including Bewick's Wren, Marsh Wren, Killdeer and surprise solo Dunlin.

Too busy birding to remember to take pics of Lake Union but you can appreciate the cloudy marsh

Really pleased with the good ventilation at Kane Hall. My CO2 monitor showed between 500 and 700ppm (context: outside is 400s and concerning is over 1000ppm). And this was a small room with half a dozen people in it!

Too busy during PyCascades to take photos! It was great, my volunteers did great, met lots of people and saw very few talks. Still deciding if I want to organize next year.

Met up with a Seattle friend and visited the excellent Wing Luke Museum on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Part is an import/export store + cheap hotel that was active from the 1910s to 2000s, never renovated, and donated to museum. Part is a history of Asian immigrants and culture (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, but also Indian, Cambodia, Burmese). Part is art gallery. Special exhibit on music!

Early birds this morning at the Union Bay Natural Area again, this time with a Seattle PyCascades friend. Almost got rained out but found Cackling Goose, Pileated Woodpecker, Killdeer, Marsh Wren, Bewick's Wren, and generally had a good time.

Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture was very photogenic but felt like it was aimed at children (or maybe I was just very tired?).
