they are turning linux into Windows these days. It is time to go back to freebsd 🤓

@[email protected] @[email protected] Yeah, exactly: you want experts on things, the good ol' "do one thing, and do it well". That's my main problem with systemd. If I want a svchost.exe, I don't need Linux. But I have to admit, I'm very opinionated on this. ^^

@nixCraft technically speaking, OpenBSD is the most secure operating system on the planet
@d4r1us_drk @nixCraft
Hmmm, not sure the @QubesOS people would agree with that statement :-)
@ojs @nixCraft @QubesOS qubes is on a whole another level tbh, for me it’s like an OS to run other OSs, but you know, with all that vm security. OpenBSD is a general purpose OS, but specially great for server stuff and that’s where it’s security shines.

@nixCraft FreeBSD, OpenBSD or NetBSD?

Coming from Debian has any of you any advice?

For everyday laptop as well as for servers.

@mwl @jschauma

@beaufils @nixCraft @mwl @jschauma

OpenBSD is the most Secure one.
FreeBSD is the most Open one, as many other derivatives are based on it.
NetBSD aims to provide be redistributable Freely.

It is a spaghetti.

@solohan83 @nixCraft @mwl @jschauma

The spaghetti comment does not help a lot :-)

Thanks anyway :-)

@beaufils @nixCraft @jschauma

Whatever speaks to you the most.

OpenBSD and NetBSD are easier to install. FreeBSD has a broader user base. All are comparatively minimalist, with a sharp divide between the base system and add-on packages.

@mwl @nixCraft @jschauma

Thanks.

I guess that for laptop I will choose the one with the "best" device support.

@mwl @nixCraft @jschauma

Which means FreeBSD or NetBSD for laptop and maybe OpenBSD for "production" servers.

@nixCraft Has somebody checked if Steam games with EAC run over BSD? If that's the case I'd probably move
@nixCraft
I will be an unabashed fan of any unix that comes with a desktop gui. The best? have a choice to install with or without the gui... there are times i need both as fresh dont-have-2-think-about-it installs... which is why gnu/linux is my go to... i just avoid the distros trying to MAC or WINDOZE the world...maddening
@nixCraft @campuscodi You could say the threat has been paused.
